Description
Students were expected to create an online web course using Blackboard. The project would include designing a syllabus, ScreenCast, Blog, Collaborative Project, Wimba Virtual Classroom, Pre and Post assessments, all to be intertwined within 3-4 lessons.

Process
This was a very in-depth detailed task that required a great deal more of time than I ever would have expected. The early parts of the task: writing the syllabus, making the Screencast, blog, and Wimba were relatively simple. Next came turning your syllabus into activities and assignments for each of the activities listed. The majority of the time was spent writing the content, worksheets, activities, and formatting.

Reflection

This was a very in-depth detailed task that took me over 45+ hours over the course of several weeks. I initially formatted everything in a way that was incorrect and spent over 35+ hours just in the last week trying to get everything in order. I found the early steps to be extremely easy but my issue was that there was really no template for how the course or assignments should be laid out. I must admit, I tend to overthink things so this is probably a personality issue moreso than an assignment issue. Unfortunately, I still haven’t quite gotten my head around how I could have done this more easily. I’m also a bit of a perfectionist which may have led to me spending more time “fixing” things than necessary. I think a lot of time could have been saved if I initially had a course map to model my course after to begin with. I found this task to be excruciating, but again I think I must have just missed a key concept because I can’t imagine anyone else spent this much time on it. My only other frustration is that I won’t really be able to use all of this work. In addition, the majority of my time was spent taking things I had already made and formatting them to fit with Blackboard. I really can’t say much else. I’m sure I learned a lot. I know I did with Jing and the Screencast, the Voicethread, Blog, and Wimba but the Blackboard experiment…. I do hope to have access to something a little less detailed that I can just upload assignments to rather than send myself or the student to a variety of places for the material. I guess you could say I prefer 1 stop shopping as opposed to the mall.
